Project Title: Feasibility study for the Skavica HydroPower Plant on Drini i Zi River (200MW)
Skavica is one of the most strategic Projects of Albania and it provides some major development advantages for the energy sector, agriculture as well as socio-economic life of the region influenced by it. For the energy sector, this Project will help increase electricity production capacity and enable more efficient utilization of Drini Cascade to secure available constant electric power for the country. For Agriculture, besides irrigation advantages, through reducing flood effects, greater area will be open to cultivation and more households will be beneficiary of increased and diversified agricultural activities including aqua culture.
It is well known that many studies have been carried out so far to realize this key Project and many interests by private companies (investors) have been presented to the governments. However, they have not been realized because of various vital reasons.
The Project area lies between Kukes and Spilje HEPP (Macedonia) in Black Drini river. BEREKET’s proposal and preference is to build one single dam which is 445m asl as a priority firstly to ensure self-sufficiency in electric power generation and address much better water management in the cascade besides to reduce flooding risks. But this alternative poses feasibility problem as the payback for the investment.
